Dem Franchize Boyz - CD Review

On Top Of Our Game

Following the massive success of ‘I Think They Like Me’ expectations of the album were naturally high. Despite not causing you to exhale, the album is certainly a grower getting more likeable with each listen. The first half of the album is quite impressive with catchy up tempo foot tappers such as ‘You Know What It Is’ and ‘Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It’ but the built up expectations fizzle out over the last few tracks.

Trey Songz adds his sexy vocals to ‘Freaky As She Wanna Be’ making it one of the best songs on the album. Other stand outs include the hilarious ‘Stop Callin’ Me’ which talks about gold diggers, and baby mothers, “Blowin up my phone like a welfare hotline”, “I don’t work at the zoo get your monkey off my back” The lyrics may not be deep and meaningful but they will certainly make you laugh.
However other featured artists add no real value to the album. ‘Bricks’ which features a strong verse from Dipset’s Jim Jones and a great beat, wouldn’t have been such a let down if it wasn’t for Damon Dash bragging yet again about how much money he has.

On Top of Our Game is no masterpiece, compromising of the same two or three crunk beats throughout, but they are so damn infectious that you’ll be clicking your fingers and bouncing along without even realising it. So if you want to get into the party mood before a night out just drop this CD into the player whilst putting on those Evisu jeans or that little black dress.
