Afro Punk Brixton Takeover 2018
September 12, 2018 22
Common, the headline act at this years Afro Punk Brixton Takeover 2018, came, saw and delivered a highly energetic set. Ably assisted by Robert Glasper (keys) and Karriem Riggins (drums) all going under the name of August Greene, they put on a tight hip hop ladened show that had the South London crowd singing and swaying along with such energy you felt the walls would collapse.
Laura Mvula looking chic in a pair of cut down jean shorts and trench coat slipped quietly on stage half way through their set to deliver some of the powerful soul soaked songs that has seen her top the charts in many countries.
Add to the mix the energy and the thoughtfulness of Akala spoken word, it was truly a memorable night worthy of the Afro Punk brand. The whole week has been a huge success and we cannot wait for more of the same next year.
Our photographer also caught some of the happy concert goers displaying the creative range of Afrocentric wear and expressions that has become synonymous with this Black pride event.
