Tiwa Savage – (24 Aug)

London sees the return of one of Nigeria’s queen of Afropop in the shapely form of Tiwa Savage at the Indigo 02. Let’s take a brief look at what makes this singing starlet so popular.

Music has always been in the blood of this Nigerian born and UK raised singer song writer. Starting out playing the trombone for her school orchestra the musical starlet quickly progressed at the tender age of 16 to lending her sweet tender young backing vocals to huge stars like Mary J Blige, Chaka Khan, Blu Cantrell to name but a few.

This was not enough for the hungry Tiwa, who soon found herself competing for the limelight on the UK X-Factor show. Where she was disappointed not be chosen for the final 12. However the brief shot of fame and recognition was enough for her to seek more of the same.

She later enrolled at the prestigious Berklee College of Music where she graduated with a degree in music at the age of 27.

Her debut studio album, Once Upon a Time, was released in 2013 and featured hits like “Kele Kele Love”, “Love Me (3x)” and more.

Her second album R.E.D in December 2015 and includes songs like “My Darlin'”, “African Waist” and “If I Start To Talk”.

She has collaborated with the likes of WizKid, Omarion, Ladipoe and the mighty Don Jazzy on the ever popular track “Without My Heart”.

She currently has a songwriting deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing and a recording contract with Mavin Records. In 2016 Savage signed a management and publishing deal with Roc Nation, making her the first female Nigerian artist to do so.

Expect a night of soul tinged Afrobeat, Afropop, RnB and everything in between from one of Nigeria’s musical giants.
