Who can forget the Senegalese, but US born singer/rapper first hit 2004 massive hit Locked Up. A song which was apparently inspired by his three year incarceration.

The Smack That, hit maker, five times Grammy nominee with over 35 million records under his belt is hitting UK shores with his Konvict Kartel. The line-up features Tre Carter, OG Boo Dirty and Tone Tone.

Recently Akon has delved into the increasingly popular Afro Beat genre with the signing of the hugely popular Nigerian artists P-SquareTuface, and Wizkid to his Kovict Music record label.

Akon has worked with a good few number of artists, notable collaborations include T-Pain, American Yard, Davido to name but a few.

However with his third album Freedom, he deliberately shifted his style from gritty hip hop/RnB to a more dance orientated Euro pop sound with great success. The single Right Now (Na Na Na) being one of the successful songs from the album.

In 2014, Akon, decided to give back to the African continent by setting up the charity Akon Lighting Africa. The vision being to bring electricity to 600 million people in rural communities across Africa by training young African engineers in solar power technology.

Akon often provided vocals as a featured artist and is currently credited with over 300 guest appearances and more than 35 Billboard Hot 100 songs. He has worked with numerous performers such as Michael Jackson, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Whitney Houston, Gwen Stefani etc.

So with support from three of USA’s hottest rapper, a bevy of energetic dancers in tow and a huge back catalogue of hits, fans can certainly expect a night of hip hop of the highest order.

Expect Akon and crew to truly ‘tear the roof off’ the Shepherds Bush Empire.
