Breakin’ Convention – International Hip Hop Dance Theatre

Breakin’ Convention the world’s biggest festival of hip hop dance theatre showcasing the very best from around the world is back at Sadler’s Wells for its 14th year running. Curated and hosted again by UK hip hop pioneer Jonzi D, this is going to be an awe inspiring event of exceptional performances from world champion b-boy crews to cutting edge street dance companies live on stage.

This year’s line-up includes South Korean super crew of poppers and b-boys Just Dance whose performance includes live Korean drumming; Canadian urban contemporary duo Tentacle Tribe; and Soweto Skeleton Movers who perform comedic contortionism fused with Pantsula, a style from their native South Africa and Cheerito from Russia, Chey Jurado from Spain, DC Vortex (France), Geni Lou & Pax (Canada), Hungry Sharks (Austria), Sample Culture (Netherlands) and Tom Tsai (USA).

Also from the UK we have the Boy Blue Entertainment, Dani & Sia, Emma Houston, Freefly Crew, The Locksmiths, Michaela Cisarikova, Natalie James, Old Men Grooving, The Rebirth Network, Si Rawlinson, Theo ‘Godson’ Oloyade, XXV and Wayward Thread.

Spilling off stage and taking over the whole building, dance workshops, graffiti, DJs, and freestyle sessions make Breakin’ Convention an unforgettable experience for all the family. The best thing about Breakin Convention’ is that it really is for everyone. You do not have to be a theatre goer or a dancer, over the course of the three days the activities are catered to give the individual a taste of what hip hop is all about, including the art, music and fashion as well as the dance.

The very popular Park Jam event is once again taking place Spa Fields Parks, Islington, EC1R 0DF (closest station Angel/Farringdon). This is a free event and therefore entry is on a first come first served basis. Once the park reaches capacity we will operate on a one-out, one-in basis. We recommend that you arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Hip hop has always been a form of theatre, but now it has an internationally recognised stage in Breakin’ Convention and one that I hope it will maintain for years to come. See you there!
