4th Natural Hair and Beauty Expo 2017

The sun shone brightly for this years Natural Hair and Beauty Expo. Held in the concourse of the University of Westminster Paddington campus, it was a bright an bustling affair. When I arrived the Expo was in full swing. In the background the DJ was pumping out the latest soul grooves and the air was filled with mix of Caribbean cooking and exotic oils. The crowd, made up of Black women of all ages seemed throughly engaged in buying, discussing and watching the various activities that was taking place all around.

The Expo, the brainchild of founder Angela Small aims to provide a platform to bring together people of colour, the experts in healthcare and lifestyle, exhibitors, models, designers, and the media. The varied and colourful stalls showcased the very best in African arts, crafts, African inspired homeware, jewellery, fashion, skincare, hair care, health products and more.

It was quite clear that the exhibitors had put a lot of time and effort into their wares, be it dresses, jewellery, cosmetics etc. It was heartwarming and a source of great pride to see so many enterprising women (and a smattering of men), working hard to keep our business community alive and healthy.

The day was punctuated with dance, poetry, singing and other forms of entertainment. All in all it was a pleasant day out and this was confirmed by the smiling faces of the ladies as they left the venue. The organisation was smooth and very professional. If you haven’t been before, this is an event I recommend you put firmly in your diary for next year.   See all images from the Expo here in the picture gallery.
